Position: Application Scientist
Location: Greater Milwaukee Area
We are seeking an experienced Applications Engineer with a strong background in material characterization instrumentation to join our team. This role involves hands-on sample analysis across gas sorption (BET surface area, pore size), chemisorption, and thermal analysis (DSC, TGA, TMA), as well as creating application notes, recording demo videos, developing technical marketing materials, and providing technical support to both customers and the sales team.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with a range of analytical techniques, capable of explaining complex technical concepts, supporting sales by demonstrating instrument capabilities, and actively engaging with customers and industry peers.
Key Responsibilities:
Sample Analysis and Reporting:
- Perform sample testing using gas sorption analyzers (BET, pore size), chemisorption equipment, and thermal analysis instruments (DSC, TGA, TMA).
- Analyze and interpret results, delivering clear and accurate data reports to customers.
Application Development and Documentation:
- Develop application notes that showcase the versatility and value of our material characterization solutions across different materials and industries.
- Document experimental procedures, best practices, and test methods for internal and customer use.
Technical Marketing Material Development:
- Create technical marketing content such as white papers, case studies, and product data sheets that highlight instrument performance and application capabilities.
- Develop educational content, including technical brochures and digital guides, to support sales and marketing activities.
- Record and produce technical demo videos and tutorials that demonstrate instrument operation, test workflows, and data interpretation.
Customer Interaction and Support:
- Collaborate with customers to understand their material characterization needs and ensure successful application of our instrumentation.
- Provide technical support and consultation to optimize customer applications and instrument performance.
Sales Support:
- Support the sales team by providing expert technical knowledge of our instrumentation and analytical techniques.
- Conduct technical presentations and live demonstrations for prospective customers, highlighting key advantages of our solutions.
Industry Engagement:
- Attend technical conferences and industry events to stay current with advances in material characterization and promote the company's products.
- Engage with peers and experts in the field, sharing insights and gathering feedback to improve applications and customer support.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field preferred; will consider candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and relevant hands-on experience.
- Hands-on experience with gas sorption analysis (BET surface area, pore size), chemisorption, and/or thermal analysis (DSC, TGA, TMA).
- Strong analytical skills with an emphasis on accurate data interpretation and reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for creating application notes, marketing content, and video presentations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams (sales, engineering, marketing).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with scientific data analysis software and video editing tools.
- Familiarity with material characterization needs in industries such as catalysis, polymers, advanced materials, energy storage, or pharmaceuticals.
- Previous experience in a customer-facing technical support or applications engineering role.
